Resining is a method for curing the minor flaws on natural stones. If there is any flaw on a natural stone you can heal it with resined natural stone. Resining is achieved by drying unpolished slabs, spraying them with polyester, and placing the slabs in a vacuum chamber that sucks the resin deep into the stone. After the stone is cured, all you have to do is polish with soft matte or a highly reflective polish.
The pros and cons of resining natural stone
Natural stones are not perfect. They have natural imperfections such as pores, cracks and pits. Resin is the most accurate material to remove all these minor defects. Resin makes the natural stone more resistant and strong, closing the cracks and pores. Some experts even argue that some granites would not be able to enter the US without the resining process. According to these experts, resin-free stone becomes very brittle and may break during transportation.
Resolving Resined Stone Problems
Although the resin removes the imperfections of the natural stone, some problems may arise due to the use it. However, eliminating these problems is much simpler. For example, polyester resin can darken the surface of the stone to which it is applied. (it may not be noticeable, even if not for polished edges that reveal the true color of the stone). However, a trained, respected natural stone restoration contractor can give the stone its beautiful appearance by applying a high quality color enhancer to achieve a uniform color.
